Grand Final - 1st XI vs Wembley Districts

Following the abandonment of play on Saturday due to inclement weather, the match was changed as a 40-over One Day fixture on Sunday.

Heading into the day, the 1st XI were quietly confident after a strong season in the One Day format, highlighted by their recent Grand Final success.

After losing the toss, Balcatta was sent in to bat. The innings began steadily, reaching 3/102, with valuable contributions from Heshan Perera (47) and Alex Galipo (24). However, a middle-order collapse saw the side slip to 7/133. Joel Handford (46) provided crucial resistance in the lower order, guiding the team to a total of 185.

With the ball, the 1st XI made an immediate impact, reducing Wembley Districts to 3/28. From there, consistent pressure and regular wickets prevented any meaningful partnerships from developing. It was an outstanding all-round bowling performance, led by Captain Jerra Smith (4/19) and well supported by Hassan Khadim (2/19). Wembley Districts were eventually dismissed for 141.

The victory secures a remarkable double for the 1st XI, claiming both the One Day and Overall Season Grand Finals. Jerra Smith was deservedly named Man of the Match.

A fantastic achievement for the club—congratulations to the entire 1st XI squad.

Time to celebrate. Go Cats!

1st Grade One Day Grand Final – 1st XI vs Murdoch University Melville

In a thrilling Sunday showdown, our 1st XI claimed the 1st Grade One Day Grand Final with a hard-fought victory over Murdoch University Melville at Jones Paskin Reserve.

Bowling first, the 1st XI made an immediate impact, reducing the visitors to 4/30. Despite a pair of middle-order partnerships that lifted Murdoch University Melville to a competitive 174, our bowlers maintained strong control throughout the innings. Hassan Khadim (3/18), Heshan Perera (3/25), Adam Copley (2/23), and Jerra Smith (2/39) were outstanding in restricting the total.

In reply, the innings began with early setbacks before Heshan Perera (53) and Ricardo de Nobrega (50) steadied the chase with a composed partnership. Kyle Cosson’s valuable 42 further strengthened the position. However, a sudden middle-order collapse saw the 1st XI slip to 8/164, still requiring 10 runs for victory.

With composure and leadership, Captain Jerra Smith stepped up to seal the result in style, striking a six to secure the win.

Congratulations to the 1st XI on an outstanding team performance and a well-deserved victory!

Best Player in the Final awarded by the Umpires: Heshan Perera
